{"id":711,"date":"2010-06-29T17:46:54","date_gmt":"2010-06-29T17:46:54","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2016-08-09T18:07:46","modified_gmt":"2016-08-09T18:07:46","slug":"the-obama-administration-s-ethics-blind-spot-for-big-labor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nrtw.org\/es\/blog\/the-obama-administration-s-ethics-blind-spot-for-big-labor\/","title":{"rendered":"The Obama Administration&#8217;s Ethics Blind Spot for Big Labor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Obama Administration hasn\u2019t been shy about <a href=\"\/en\/blog\/new-obama-administration-contracting-policy04132110\">paying back<\/a> the union bosses, but it has been shy about answering basic questions about its <a href=\"\/en\/blog\/mark-mix-public-deserves-to-know-about-obama-big-labor-collusion-12092009\">collusion<\/a> with Big Labor.<\/p>\n<p>So while <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/stories\/0610\/39110.html\">Monday\u2019s report<\/a> in <i>Politico<\/i> shouldn\u2019t shock anyone, it is telling:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n\tPresident Barack Obama\u2019s political director failed to disclose that he was slated to receive a nearly $40,000 payout from a large labor union while he was working in the White House.<\/p>\n<p>\tPatrick Gaspard, who served as the political director for the Service Employees International Union local 1199, received $37,071.46 in \u201ccarried over leave and vacation\u201d from the union in 2009, but he did not disclose the agreement to receive the payment on his financial disclosure forms filed with the White House.<\/p>\n<p>\t&#8230;<br \/>\n\tGaspard spent nine years at 1199 SEIU, a major labor union in New York. Gaspard also worked for Obama\u2019s campaign, and later worked for the transition team, where he earned $11,500, according to the financial disclosure form he filed this year. He was pulling a salary from SEIU until Jan. 16, 2009, shortly before Obama was inaugurated.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>From political director of an affiliate of the SEIU to political director of President Obama.
