Cohen to Director of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fmcs.gov\/internet\/index.asp\">Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service<\/a> (FMCS).\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\nAccording to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.peggybrowningfund.org\/\">Peggy Browning Fund\u2019s<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.peggybrowningfund.org\/pdf\/GeorgeCohen.pdf\">biography<\/a> of Cohen, &quot;he joined the National Labor Relations Board in 1960 as an Attorney Advisor for Board Member [Gerald] Brown where he helped shape the progressive, union\u00a0[boss]&#8230; friendly agenda of the &#8216;Kennedy Board&#8217;\u2026\u00a0 In 1966, George left the Board to begin his 40 year stint as a union-side labor lawyer.&quot;\n<\/p>\n<p>\nCohen\u2019s past efforts on behalf of union chiefs clearly indicates that he brings years of\u00a0forced unionism\u00a0bias to what is a very coveted position for Big Labor.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nUnder the <a href=\"\/en\/search\/node\/binding+arbitration\">mandatory binding arbitration<\/a> provision in the Card Check Forced Unionism Bill, the FMCS bureaucrats would take over employer\/union boss contract negotiations\u00a090 days after a <a href=\"\/en\/blog\/card-check-intimidation-04162009\">card check forced organizing<\/a> campaign.\u00a0 The forced arbitration provision that is triggered at 120 days not only snatches the power of contract negotiations away from the people it actually affects; but it also, as the <a href=\"\/en\/blog\/wall-street-journal-big-labor-10272008\"><i>Wall Street Journal<\/i><\/a> notes, emboldens union bosses &quot;to run out the 120-day clock and let an arbitrator impose a contract that is bound to include much of what unions demand.&quot;\u00a0 The federally-imposed contract would be binding for two years.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nIf Big Labor&#8217;s Card Check Forced Unionism Bill passes, the Cohen-led FMCS would become a defacto rubber stamp for union boss coercion, doing\u00a0Big\u00a0Labor&#8217;s\u00a0dirty work during negotiations and empowering them to browbeat employers into forcing more workers into forced-dues-paying union membership.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nObama&#8217;s nomination of yet another union hired gun, this time for the vital post of FMCS Director, is just another example in <a href=\"\/en\/blog\/does-obamas-ethics-06122009\">a long list<\/a> of <a href=\"\/en\/blog\/obama-nlrb-05202109\">union stooges<\/a> who <a href=\"\/en\/blog\/statement-solis-nomination-12182808\">clearly do not have the best interests<\/a> of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=xsFuaf8K2bw&amp;e\">independent-minded workers<\/a> at heart.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\nIn the latest of a <a href=\"\/en\/press\/2009\/01\/obama-makes\">litany<\/a> of <a href=\"\/en\/blog\/obama-blacklist-01302109\">Big Labor<\/a> <a href=\"\/en\/blog\/obama-administration-poised-02252009\">political<\/a> <a href=\"\/en\/blog\/obamas-budget-undercuts-dol-union-watchdog-05082009\">paybacks<\/a>, President Barack Obama <a href=\"http:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/the_press_office\/President-Obama-Announces-More-Key-Administration-Posts-6-29-09\/\">nominated<\/a> union lawyer George H.
