{"id":321,"date":"2008-08-14T10:03:09","date_gmt":"2008-08-14T10:03:09","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2016-08-09T18:16:11","modified_gmt":"2016-08-09T18:16:11","slug":"exposed-naked-cna-union-boss-hypocrisy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nrtw.org\/es\/blog\/exposed-naked-cna-union-boss-hypocrisy\/","title":{"rendered":"EXPOSED: Naked CNA Union Boss Hypocrisy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\nUnion boss hypocrisy is nothing new, but <a href=\"\/press\/2008\/08\/nurses-attack-backroom-deal\">this recent case<\/a>, filed by two nurses in Houston, Texas against the CNA union and Tenet Healthcare shows just how blatant that hypocrisy can be.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nWhen the SEIU bosses got themselves a sweetheart deal to organize nurses from the top down with Catholic Healthcare Partners in Ohio, CNA\/NNOC <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2008\/03\/12\/us\/12union.html?adxnnl=1&amp;adxnnlx=1205337966-K8QfmZ52MfoNW4TAY1V5lA\">denounced<\/a> the deal as an illegitimate sell out of workers\u2019 rights to a free and fair election, and workers\u2019 rights to choose or reject unionization with full information, and without coercion or discrimination:\n<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\n\tRose Ann DeMoro, executive director of the nurses association, condemned this [SEIU] agreement. She called it \u201ca rigged scam\u201d in which the service employees union would bargain only half-heartedly if it won the vote.\n\t<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cThis was a top-down deal between an employer and a hand-picked union,\u201d Ms. DeMoro said. \u201cThere was a gag order on everyone, and as a result this was a banana republic election.\u201d\n\t<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\nCNA\/NNOC even went so far as to create <a href=\"http:\/\/www.servingemployersinsteadofus.org\/\">anti-SEIU websites<\/a> accusing that union of selling out workers while cutting secret sweetheart deals with management, in exchange for assistance organizing new workers from the top down.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThis is the game that union bosses play nowadays: they increasingly fail in organizing workers the old fashioned way, since workers increasingly aren&#8217;t buying what the union bosses are selling. So, the union bosses try to organize companies, not workers, in what is known as <a href=\"\/neutrality\/info\">\u201ctop down\u201d organizing<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nBut all of this moaning and whining about SEIU\u2019s secret \u201cneutrality\u201d deals has not stopped the CNA\/NNOC brass from cutting <i>their own<\/i> secret sweetheart deals with companies. CNA\/NNOC\u2019s latest deal is <a href=\"\/files\/nrtw\/Tenet%20CNA-NNOC%20Election%20Procedure%20Agreement%20Texas.pdf\">a secret \u201cneutrality\u201d agreement<\/a> with Tenet Healthcare, a nationwide hospital chain.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nUnder the agreement, Tenet is gagged from saying anything about the union, nurses&#8217; personal information is handed to the union without their consent, and union agents get wide access to campaign inside the hospital facilities while anti-CNA nurses are barred from effectively providing an opposing view in their own workplaces.
