{"id":233,"date":"2008-04-02T17:28:29","date_gmt":"2008-04-02T17:28:29","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2016-08-09T18:20:21","modified_gmt":"2016-08-09T18:20:21","slug":"the-union-bosses-goal-more-forced-dues-dollars","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nrtw.org\/es\/blog\/the-union-bosses-goal-more-forced-dues-dollars\/","title":{"rendered":"The Union Bosses&#8217; Goal: More Forced Dues Dollars"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: center\">\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/files\/nrtw\/unionboss%20mobile.PNG\" height=\"142\" width=\"390\" \/>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\nCarl Horowitz has an article up today at <a href=\"http:\/\/article.nationalreview.com\/?q=MmI0YWQ3MDgzYzNkODU1OTc0ZjE1Y2UwOTYwYmRjZTM=&amp;w=MQ==\">National Review Online<\/a> about the SEIU union and its top boss, Andy Stern.<span>  <\/span>The article plays up the supposed split in organized labor between the so-called \u201cChange to Win\u201d coalition (led by Stern\u2019s SEIU) and the AFL-CIO over whether to emphasize <a href=\"http:\/\/nrtwc.org\/facts-issues\/cardcheck.htm\">politics and lobbying<\/a> or <a href=\"\/blog\/seiu-dissident-ads-decry-top-down-leadership\">more aggressive organizing<\/a> through the abusive card check scheme.\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\nHorowitz\u2019s article deals mostly with the SEIU\u2019s immigration policies, but the most important thing to take away is that both \u201cChange to Win\u201d and the AFL-CIO really have only one goal: <i>sweeping more workers into their forced dues-paying ranks, and using card check to do it<\/i>.\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\nThis is illustrated clearly by Horowitz who describes a secret sweetheart deal the SEIU struck to get employer assistance in forcing workers into union ranks:\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-left: 0.5in\">\nIn a secret 2003 agreement with California nursing-home chains \u2014 according to Bay Area alternative newspaper <i>SF Weekly<\/i> \u2014 the SEIU committed to: discouraging patients and their families from suing for negligence; and supporting a four-year, $2 billion increase in MediCal subsidies to nursing homes.
