Unions should be treated like any other monopoly
Unions are monopolies and should therefore be illegal, or at the very least as regulated as monopoly companies.
The whole principle of unions is to stifle competition, to drive up wages beyond their natural equilibrium price that would be achieved, according to the laws of supply and demand.
It is not a coincidence that every one of the industries where they are strong is not competitive?
- Government itself is a monopoly, and highly inefficient ... a perfect host for infestations by unions
- the "Big 3" were an oligopoly, where the high cost and low innovation caused by the UAW were shared by all 3 vendors, so consumers are the ones who suffered -- until compatition crept in
- Public Education is another monopoly, and despite tripling the spendin per capita, whose "work product" has gotten worse over time (plus it's turned our schools into liberal recruiting grounds)
The list goes on and on. The more unionized an industry, the more uncompetitive.
Unions simply do not work over time.
The biggest Union was the Soviet Union, and we know how badly THAT ended up. Or at least some of us remember ... the powers that be in Washington today (and at least until the 2010 elections) seem hell-bent on repeating every single inane mistake of the USSR in their heedless, headless, rush to plunge the country even further into Socialism.
Be afraid ... be very, very afraid!
