Unions and their ways
CottonE-Try telling all this crap to my son, a 17 year veteran of UPS and paying dues, when he was diagnosed with cancer a year ago.
He had so many problems getting his disability it wasn't funny. Finally, one of the retired members of UPS went to the headquarters in Raleigh, N.C. and worked for my son, who was still in hospital, to get his benefits started. Now my son has a wife and 2 small boys and he has been an exemplary employee for UPS and this is the treatment he got. Later, when he was nearing the end of disability, he was forced to go to Social Security to see if they would give him disability. If he didn't do this, the union would have cut off his funds...I was married to a man from GE who tried to start unions there in the 70's and I remember the total fiasco that was-people didn't want the union and they were harrassed and threatened too. It used to be a wonderful thing and it helped workers all over the country-now it's run by a bunch of thugs, listening to the president of the NEA and he said we just want to make we get paid-our objective is not on education...how's that for the poorest of unions because we have sorry teachers we can't get rid of no matter what. A recent incident was a teacher (female) caught with a 15 year old in her car have sexual relations and she had been let go from 2 other jobs with a stellar reference so she was hired here...I don't call this fair or right...Unions have outlived their good and very few of them really do what's right for their members. Watch the health care issue-this stands to save them piles of money if passed and their members out there protesting don't even know what's coming for them...I bet the CEO's keep their coverage, the congress has already said that-Sen. Baucas said unions and congress would be exempt from taxes and will keep their insurance.
