Ah, the Maine State Employees Association. When they're not extorting workers' dues to pay for union activism and legal schemes, MSEA bosses are evidently fond of harassing UPS truck drivers:
Timothy Belcher, the leader [sic] of the state's workers' union, has requested that a jury hear allegations that he illegally blocked a UPS driver from continuing his rounds earlier this summer.
Belcher's attorney, Leonard Sharon, said this week that a trial date has not yet been set in Sagadahoc County Superior Court.
Belcher, 53, the executive director of the Maine State Employee Association, a labor union representing more than 15,000 public and private sector workers throughout Maine, was issued a summons charging him with criminal restraint on June 25 after allegedly standing in front of the UPS drivers' truck to prevent it from leaving the driveway to Belcher's Bowdoinham home.
Criminal restraint is a Class D misdemeanor that carries a maximum potential penalty of a year in jail and a fine, Sharon said.
The MSEA, of course, is one of the parties in the upcoming Foundation Supreme Court case Locke v. Karass. Foundation attorneys seek a court ruling that would put greater teeth into protections for nonunion workers laboring under forced union dues.
Here's how the responding officer described Mr. Belcher's decision-making faculties after the hapless UPS driver called the police:
"He just seemed to be irrational at the time and wasn't making good decisions," [Officer] Rogers said.
Now ask yourself: would you trust Mr. Belcher to manage your hard-earned money? Why should Maine State employees be forced to hand over their hard-earned money to Belcher?

Pamela, Owen and CJ:
I need to ask the three of you to make one or more phone calls on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday of next week (8/18-20) that are required under a settlement agreement we entered into with a former member, Denis Clark. Ali and I talked with Tim about making these calls, but in talking to Tim today we concluded that the calls would be less awkward, and hopefully more natural, coming from reps who deal with the employers in question.
The employers are:
• Home Care for Maine and Alpha One (Owen) -- the logical contact at HC4M is Mollie Baldwin, 582-8001; and at Alpha One it's Jay Hardy, 233-8961(cell), or 800-640-7200 (Jay is a consultant to Alpha One, and should definitely be contacted, but you should ask him whether it would also be appropriate to contact the Executive Director, Dennis Fitzgibbons, as that might be politically necessary; I don't have that number, unless he's at the 800 number above - Missy may know, or be able to look it up)
• Green Valley Association and Treats Falls (CJ) -- the logical contact at GVA is Eric Quint, 463-2156; at Treats it's Catherine Robertson, 866-3769
• Department of Conservation (Pamela) (although other reps handle Conservation as well, Pamela has the central offices) -- the logical contact is Deb Phillips, 287-4925
The settlement agreement commits us to making calls to specified employers "recommending that those employers strongly consider Clark for employment". Without mentioning a settlement agreement, please introduce yourself if you haven't yet met, and say that we have a former member who's seeking employment and has done work of the type offered by this employer (Clark has done personal care/home care work, and is a Maine Guide), we were wondering if this employer has any openings, and if Clark applies we recommend that the employer strongly consider him.
If you have questions about this, you can talk to Ali, who has a copy of the S/A. I'm sorry to have this land on your lap on a last minute basis. These calls were supposed to have been made by today, and after talking with Tim I got dispensation from Clark's attorney to do them early next week. I would have made the calls myself, or asked Ali to, but I thought it would seem really weird to the employers if a Union attorney was making these calls.
FYI - we don't have any expectation that Clark will get a job as a result of these calls.
Thanks for your help. I know you didn't need this.

Forced Unionism is Anti-American
Since MSEA-SEIU Local 1989 has been using an array of intimidation tactics as part of their forced unionism campaign in Maine, it looks like those activities may have rubbed off on the big union boss. It's interesting to see that the infamous NARSBARS has appeared here and actually referenced the U.S. Constitution, especially since he supports the Anti-American push for more forced unionism in our country.
It's time for this country to hold people/organizations accountable whom feel they're above the law, and I believe that includes people like Tim Belcher and unions/PACs like the Maine State Employees Association. There's nothing fair about that organization's so-called "fair share fee," and their fee calculation process has created nothing but inflated and fraudulent values.
If/When all of these inappropriate accounting practices are investigated by a truly fair and impartial procedural audit, a huge iceberg of Maine lies and inappropriate political activities will get exposed. Be patient NARSBARS, as truth and justice will eventually prevail for our pro-America side.
The US constitution
While you have the right to wish Mr. Belcher convicted you have not proven your crystal ball and neither have you proved that you have superseded the courts. If being accused is the same as being guilty, I accuse the right to work organization of being funded and set up for the sole purpose of denying workers rights, destroying the rights won for all Americans by Unions and being a sham front for corporate interests.
There you have been accused. Would you want an organization like that claiming to fight for your rights?
Childish and illegal actions by Tim Belcher
He sat on the ground in front of a UPS truck with his arms crossed...and he's the "Executive Director" for Maine State Employees Association? Wow, my eight year old son isn't even that childish anymore. It's sounds like Tim Belcher's job might be too much for him to handle...but will he resign before the union members decide to kick him out?
